Acne is a condition that we are all familiar with. It can have a big impact on how we feel. We usually think of acne as pimples, spots or zits but there are different types of lesions that make up the umbrella term of ‘acne’. These include blackheads, white heads, pustules and deep lesions called cysts or nodules. These are often painful.
Acne can affect people of all ages and all races. Contributing factors include genetics, hormones, environment, and certain medications.
Acne scarring is the long term effect of acne.
There are lots of options available for treating acne. Laser is just one. We would be delighted to assist you in the treatment of acne. We understand what a bother it can be. You can make an appointment with our Doctor to discuss various treatments, including laser.
Laser hair removal is a safe and popular way of removing unwanted and bothersome hair. It is a fast and effective treatment for unwanted facial and body hair.
Bangalow Laser’s medical professionals use the state of the art Syneron-Candela GentleMax Pro Laser System which combines 2 different wavelengths to create the world’s most efficient laser hair reduction system.
This medical grade laser is so safe that it can be used on any part of the body, on all skin types, and still achieve amazing results.
The laser is combined with a state of the art cooling system ensuring that skin stays cool during the treatment.
The latest 24mm spot size enables us to treat both small and large areas in the fraction of the time.
The laser emits a pulse of light which is absorbed by the melanin (pigment in the hair follicle). This heats the hair follicle and impedes the ability of the hair shaft and bulb to regrow hair. The surrounding tissue and skin remain unharmed.
Our hair grows in stages which means that multiple treatments are required. Hairs that respond to laser must be in the early stages of growth. This is called the anagen phase. Not all hairs are in this stage at the same time. Light hair does not respond well to laser as there is minimal pigment for the laser to ‘find’.
At Bangalow laser, we will teach you some tips to maximise the efficacy of your treatment and minimise the treatments that you need.
Patient’s usually need between 6 and 12 treatments. We also recommend a maintenance session every 6 months or so if dormant hair decides to grow.
If you’re unsure if your hair is suitable, come and visit us for a free, no obligation consultation and discuss your desired treatment with one of our medical professionals.
Tattoos don’t have to be for life!
We use the Sectrum Tatto Removal Laser (Q-Switched Nd:Yag Laser). This laser emits a bright light that heats up and breaks down your tattoo ink, which your body then clears via the lymphatic system ready for the next layer of ink particles to be targeted at a later session.
Typically the Spectrum Tattoo removal laser will eliminate tattoos in an average of 4-10 treatments depending on factors such as the age of the tattoo and the ink that has been used. It is particularly effective on black, blue, red, and pink but fading will be observed in all colours to some degree. Sessions are 6 weeks apart and consultation required. Prices vary ranging from $50.
Come in for a consultation – we can discuss the size and colour depth of your tattoo so we can estimate how many sessions you may need to reach your best results.
Freckles are the flat brown marks that develop on the skin in sun exposed areas. Freckles tend to appear in sun exposed areas and are more common on the face. They can however appear anywhere on the body.
Lentigines, another kind of dark spot, are due to an increased amount of melanocytes (pigment producing cells) in the skin. These usually occur due to sun damage. They occur most commonly on the face and hands. They are usually larger and more defined that freckles. These can easily be treated with laser.
Pigmentation may also be due to melisma (often referred to as the mask of pregnancy), chronic inflammation, chronic vascular lesions and scarring. These all can be safely and effectively minimised with laser treatment.
Protecting our skin from the sun is the best way to slow the progression of these skin changes. Smoking also impacts the ageing process.
Pigmentation can be treated in a number of ways, including laser. At Bangalow Laser, we take skin safety very seriously. We have a doctor on site to perform skin checks to detect dangerous lesions that could be cancerous. If you haven’t had a skin check in the last 12 months, we ask that you either book with our Doctor for a complete skin check, or see your GP or dermatologist for a check before treatment.
At Bangalow Laser we treat all varieties of scar such as keloid, acne, hypertrophic and stretch marks. The available treatments include skinpen, laser treatments and chemical peel. All procedures are performed by an experienced cosmetic nurse.
Chemical peels are agents which lift the epidermis in a controlled manner. This reveals younger skin and treats certain skin conditions including superficial acne scars. Various chemicals can be used depending upon the requirements from the peel. Caution is exercised particularly for dark-skinned individuals, those susceptible to keloid formation and those with active infections.
Laser scar reduction treatments can offer good reduction of scar skin texture and colour. This method is ideal for new or red/pink scars and can drastically reduce redness whilst stimulating collagen and elastin. We usually recommend between 1-3 sessions, however this is dependent on the nature of the scar.
As we age, our skin ages too. The ageing of our skin is influenced by our genetics, our care for our skin and our environment, particularly the sun.
As lucky as we are to live in Australia, all this sun has an impact on our skin. Photo-ageing is the ageing of the skin in those areas exposed to the sun. Have a look at the skin on your arm compared to the skin on your tummy. Photo-ageing leads to fine lines and wrinkles as well as changes in pigment (colour) and texture (the feel of the skin). Skin also becomes thinner over time which makes it more fragile and prone to skin tears or bruises.
GentleMax Pro laser uses state of the art technology to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating your cell’s own collagen production. This leads to improved skin elasticity and firmer skin as well as the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
The Ematrix treatment uses RF energy precisely directed into the skin in the form of a matrix. Healthy skin around the dots accelerates the healing process of the skin. Post treatment, new collagen and healthy skin cells are produced. Mild to moderate wrinkles and superficial imperfections of your skin’s tone and texture are reduced.
These are non-invasive procedures with no down time for optimal, long-term results to combat the signs of ageing. This treatment can be performed anywhere on the body including tummy, face, buttocks, arms and legs.

Rosacea, a chronic inflammatory condition of the face, can also be minimised with laser treatment. Rosacea is characterised by facial flushing, redness or erythema, visible blood vessels, papules and pustules. Severe rosacea can lead to a condition called rhinophyma where the nose is enlarged and red.
There are different types of rosacea and various different treatments of which laser is one. Treatments depend on the type and severity of the rosacea. We invite you to come in for a no obligation free consultation or discuss further with our Doctor various treatments available.
The term vascular relates to the vessels in our body that carry blood. Vascular lesions are veins or marks that are caused when vessel walls weaken and dilate, making them visible on the skin’s surface. Examples of vascular lesions are broken capillaries, spider veins
Skin type, the environment, genetics and the ageing process all contribute to the evolution of vascular lesions.
Laser treatment of vascular lesions is a safe and effective treatment. Results occur by emitting a beam of light which is attracted to the haemoglobin in the vessel. This heats the vessel causing it to constrict and close.
Multiple treatments are required to treat these lesions. If you are unsure if your vascular lesions can be treated by laser come and visit us for a free, no obligation consultation and discuss your desired treatment with one of our medical professionals.
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail which leads to thickening and discoloration of the nail plate. Dead skin breaks down and builds up underneath the nail, eventually causing the nail to change shape.
Onychomycosis is known for being difficult to treat and a range of treatment options are required to eliminate it. Laser treatment is an excellent adjunct to topical and oral treatment often meaning that the nail is cured over a much faster time course than traditional treatments alone.
As we are committed to evidence based practise, Bangalow Laser is currently engaging in ongoing research to determine the true effectiveness of laser treatment for fungal nails.
